YEU Cyprus stands for Youth for Exchange and Understanding Cyprus and it is a non-political, non-governmental organization (NGO) based in Cyprus. It was established in 1995 with the aim to foster closer co-operation and better understanding among the young people of the world through the exchange of information, experiences and ideas. YEU Cyprus is one of the biggest youth organizations in Cyprus numbering more than 1000 members. It is considered to be one of the most active organizations of the island realizing several activities both on international and local level.

YEU Cyprus is a full member of the Cyprus Youth Council and is represented in the CYC Board. It is also a member of the Advisory Body of the Cyprus Youth Board, the semi -governmental organization responsible for youth issues in Cyprus. YEU Cyprus is affiliated with the YEU International platform which is under the European Youth Forum umbrella.

YEU Cyprus advocates on the rights of young people with regards to having voice in the Cypriot society and beyond; Some of the related topics are human rights, rights of minorities, racism, xenophobia, extremism etc. In addition, it organises and participates as a partner in various international and local activities and events. On international level, YEU Cyprus organizes and delivers training courses, youth exchanges and EVS projects on different topics, focusing always on youth development, awareness raising and capacity building. The organization focuses also in empowering the voice of young people through Structured Dialogue aiming at policy making under the Erasmus+ and other programmes. The methodology of the activities is based on non-formal education and experiential learning. YEU Cyprus also gives its members the opportunity to participate in international activities abroad such as in partner’s training courses, youth exchanges, European Voluntary Service (EVS), European Solidarity Corps (ESC), Partnership Building Activities (PBAs), seminars, SALTO events and the YEU International Youth Convention.

On local level, in attempt to bring youngsters together and make them aware of different topics, YEU Cyprus organizes Theater of the Oppressed, Human Libraries, workshops and seminars on different topics (for example human trafficking, non-formal education, volunteering), street festivals, laughter festival, geocaching, field trips and other activities.


Who We Are

Yiota Ignatiou

Yiota is currently the President of YEU Cyprus and has been a board member since 2014. She loves travelling and believes that education will bring the change we need in our world and YEU Cyprus.

Skevi Hadjiefthimiou

Skevi is the Vice-President of YEU Cyprus. She is an English teacher who loves to travel, eat, meet new people, speak different languages and above all enjoy life to the fullest. Skevi has participated in almost all European programmes - Comenius, Erasmus+, Grundtvig, Leonardo Da Vince, Youth Exchanges and EVS - and has realised that the things that unite us are more than the ones that keep us apart.

Evie Grouta

Evie joined YEU in January 2018 and is the Programmes' Development Secretary. She is passionate about peace, museums, dancing and very happy that she can occupy herself with all these matters for a living. She loves channeling her energy into travelling, volunteering and gaining new experiences and skills. Evie believes that learning, sharing and trying to make the world a better place are some of the greatest aspects of human behavior and at the same time the main reason she is part of YEU.

Dora Avraam

Dora has been a member of the YEU family since 2017 and is the Organizational Secretary of YEU Cyprus. She is a primary school teacher. She loves exploring new places and making friends all around the world. She considers herself to be an adventure seeker and she enjoys discovering what happens when she gets out of her comfort zone. Her love for nature and outdoor activities, led her to participate in training courses in Romania and Denmark. She awaits for more opportunities to be involved in youth empowering activities. Georgia Hadjinikola

 Georgia is the Treasurer of YEU Cyprus. She is a primary school teacher with a master degree in Social Justice Education. She is interested in topics concerning human rights education and active citizenship. She loves theater, arts and crafts, travelling, learning new languages and she is always eager to meet new people from around the world.

Maria Argyride

Maria is a primary school teacher and has participated in various activities of YEU Cyprus since 2012. She is inspired to promote youth and non-formal education. She has been a Board Member of YEU Cyprus since January 2017 and is currently the International Affairs Secretary. She loves this new chapter of her life and stronly believes that “We make a life by what we give”. 

Mary Ioannidou

   Mary is the Secretary General  of YEU Cyprus. Having an interdisciplinary background and being a European Studies major she believes that through non-formal education and advocacy young people can change a part of this world we live in. Having participated herself in various European projects and being part of the YEU family she has made it her personal mission to try and inform even more young people of the great opportunities Europe can give us. 

Chrystalla Panayi

Chrystalla is the Press Secretary of YEU Cyprus. She is a European Project Manager and holds 2 bachelor's degrees in European Studies and Modern Languages and in Classical Studies from the University of Cyprus. She loves learning new languages, binge-watching series, meeting new people and travelling around the world. She is an active member and volunteer in various youth NGOs in Cyprus and has participated in a number of transnational projects, training programs and activities.
