''Volunteering in Milan to support Children & Teens with Centro QR52''

Centro QR52 is a youth center in Milan, dedicated to youngsters aged 11-19 from the neighbourhood. In the youth center they can meet their friends, take part in organised activities, play sports and receive support for their homework. Sometimes volunteers can be involved in activities with the elderly in the same buildingAfter-‐school activities with children and youngsters;

Main Tasks:

  • Participation in the staff meetings to settle the programme activities
  • Support in sports activities, as tournaments and trainings, in both aspects: logistics and practice Creative, artistic and cultural workshops with children;
  • Animation and recreational activities for children (6-11 years old);
  • Activities and development of new ideas in order to involve the local community through intercultural meetings and linguistic tandem in English, Italian and own mother tongue;

Accommodation: You will share a flat in Milan, with double rooms, bathrooms and an eat- in kitchen. The accommodation is provided by the coordinating organization: Associazione Joint. You will live in the apartment with other Italians and ESC volunteers.

Allowance: A Pocket money of 5 euro per day for month will be provided plus 160 euro a month for covering the food expenses. The volunteers will also get a monthly ticket for covering the transports to the activities. The travel expenses will be reimbursed on the basis defined by the European Commission.

Centro Vincenziano Irda in Milan, Italy is a youth center dedicated to children and youngsters where they can particpate in afterschool activities, socialize with their peers and be receive support from staff and volunteers. The ESC volunteers will be involved in educational and lifelong learning activities with children and teens.

Main Tasks:

  • Participation in the staff meetings to settle the programme activities
  • Support in the after school programme, helping children with their homework through workshops, group work or individually work.
  • Creative, artistic and cultural workshops with children.
  • Support in sports activities, as tournaments and trainings, in both aspects: logistics and practice.
  • Support children and youngsters to take care of the community garden.

Centro Celim is a center in Milan, Italy dedicated to community development through cooperation and education. The volunteer will be involved in educational and learning activities with children, with a focus on interculturality.

Main Tasks:

  • Participation in the staff meetings to settle the programme activities.
  • Support activities in the analysis, design and drafting project documentation for workshop with the schools
  • Collaboration in organisation and implementation of after school activities with children (11-14 years old)

'' ESC with migrants in Associazione Il CE.STO | Genova '' 

Associazione il Cesto Onlus is involved since 1987 in the promotion of integration and social promotion processes among the different ethnicities living in Genova's historical city centre, with a particular attention towards minors, second generation migrants and other actors in the neighbourhood (residents, shop keepers, schools and institutions). The association has managed to build a space in which to develop and bring together educational, recreational and creative goals among minors of different ethnicities and Italians, stimulating and encouraging positive relations among people, encounter, mutual knowledge and solidarity, providing paths and tolls to value and enforce individuals and community’s potential. The association’s services are a literacy course for adults, a helpdesk for migrants, the Social Centre for children, the Social Centre for pre-adolescents and adolescents and cultural animation and training activities.

Main Tasks:
The volunteer will be involved in the support of the hosting of refugees and asylum seekers:

  • Daily management of the relationship with them.
  • Integration and socialization activities, such as Italian courses, sport, and cultural activities.
  • Legal and health support and participation in the support toward job market
  • Participation in volunteering activities with refugees such as social agriculture.
  • Luzzati garden management: assist the staff and volunteers Ce.Sto in cultural and intercultural promotion activities and events.
  • Support to the Association’s promotion activities on social networks and on the “Luzzati Square”

'' ESC with Children & Adolescents in Centro Storico Ragazzi | Genoa''

Centro Storico Ragazzi project started in 2008 stemming from a shared assessment of the needs of Genoa historical centre. It gathers the parish churches belonging to the central-western Curacy of Genoa, consisting in the most downgraded areas of the historical centre, together with some associations active in the support of minors with fewer opportunities. Centro Storico Ragazzi carries out educational activities for youngsters aged 7-18, who live in or hang out at Genoa historical city centre. The majority of them have foreign nationality, especially Ecuador, Perù and China. Most youngsters we’re working with face disadvantaged family environments, difficulties at school, economical obstacles and do not have a stable connection with the context.

'' Volunteering in Residential centers for youth, including unaccompanied foreign minors''

The Cooperative La Comunità is a social enterprise active in Genoa in the field of educational activities to combat and prevent minors’ distress and sustain fragile families through socio educational, animation and cultural services. La Comunità is managing a CEA (Comunità Educativa d’Accoglienza Residenziale- Educational Residential Centres), hosting minors who are taken in by social services and temporarily separated from their natural families. In the CEA they can live, grow, study, have fun and create significant relationships with peers and educators. Activities are structured in a way to guarantee both group and autonomous spaces to the users. La Comunità has recently opened up a residential centre for unaccompanied foreign minors called “Tuin - Il giardino”, where 16 minors are living and developing their personal projects.

'' Volunteering in Italy in daily Educational centers for children ''

Cooperativa La Comunità is a social enterprise active in Genoa in the field of educational activities to combat and prevent minors’ distress and sustain fragile families through socio educational, animation and cultural services.
Concerning high threshold services for minors, La Comunità has two different kinds of services: Daily educational centre (Comunità Educativa a ciclo diurno – CED) and socio-educational centres (Centro Socio Educativi – CSDE). CED is a semi-residential service offering daily hospitality for minors living in complex and high-risk contexts. CED usually hosts children who are having personal, relational, behavioural and developing problems; who are in need of individual educational interventions. CSDE works in a high risk area, trying to avoid the breaking of family ties and to reconstruct, sustain and develop all relationships involving the minors, so to invert the tendency towards marginalisation. Through daily educational action, it provides special and flexible tools able to accompany the minor and his/her family through a temporary crisis. La Comunità currently runs three CSED for Italian and foreign pre-adolescents and adolescents. Volunteers will either be involved in all structures or in one/two, according to the number of minors hosted at the moment of the service and to volunteers’ attitude.

'' Volunteering in a Non-Profit providing services to children & local community ''

Mignanego Cooperative Society is a no-profit cooperative. It was founded in1996 by a group of young women. The presence of a close-knit group of people has allowed a constant growth for the cooperative, both in terms of supply of services and quality of the very same services. The cooperative is engaged in the field of social work. Its initiatives are aimed to children, elderly people, people with disabilities, women victims of violence or in situations of hardship and migrants. The Cooperative is now a stable and significant reality in the social fabric of the area in which operates, also due to the active collaboration with associations, public or private, and, more generally, with all entities involved in favor of citizenship and personal services. This cooperative puts the person at the center of its different-initiatives, with needs, rights and values in relation to the territory and its specific problems and resources. The primary task of the cooperative is the creation of specific initiatives which could better serve to the needs of users. The cooperative also promotes collaboration with public institutions, associations and individuals aimed to create an effective business network that increases the number and quality of human relations among people. Currently, the cooperative has about 25 employees. The professionals involved are Professional Educators, Psychologists, Home Care Assistants, Administrative and Social Health Workers.

'' Volunteering in Italy in a residential community for young women & girls ''

The Congregation of Buon Pastore has a very long history of commitment in the assistance of young girls and women. Its activity has always addressed the female world through the reception, education and vocational training of the weakest, younger groups. In the ’70s, Buon Pastore started a collaboration with the Territorial Social Services of Genoa and, consistent with the social and political changes of the time, it undertook a significant change in the educational system, becoming more personalized, less restrictive and open to the outside and to voluntary groups. For some years now, the Congregation has started a process of gradual transition towards secular social-welfare initiatives, promoting the establishment of institutions in charge of educational services. In 2019 the Buon Pastore Cooperativa Sociale – Impresa Sociale was created, and it runs now two residential centers hosting young girls with the aim to take care, promote help the girls towards their independence and self-fulfillment.
