A remarkable two week journey. This course has not only given me useful tools to implement through my work but more than that an unforgettable time full of memories with amazing people from eight different countries. It’s said that you may forget what others said or what others have done but you will never forget how others made you feel. To me this training course was more than learning new skills. It was remembering the power of communication, the power of teambuilding and how these have an enormous effect in connecting us to each other. I feel so grateful in expanding my knowledge plus the lovely souls I have met. Here in this particular project “Act out of the Box” we have learned and implemented methods like British drama, improvisation theatre and mime in order to improve skills such as communication, team building, social inclusion, intercultural learning etc. We have experienced several exercises by our trainers. We had the chance to implement our own exercises on other participants and with youths from a high school in Montemor o Velho in Portugal. Work with different cultures expanded my point of view. Getting to experience how each of us react differently in every exercise physically, mentally and emotionally was mind opening. I believe that something common among all cultures is that we all have the need to communicate and establish a social connection with others. This can either be in a workplace, a school environment, a socializing event and so on. I can clearly see that these methods are great pieces of value when it comes to strengthening our communication with each other. Every night after dinner we always had gathering times, music, dance and a lot of cultural food tastings. We had a day off where we first visited Castelo Magico the famous castle in Montemor o Velho and then went to the city center of Coimbra. We had the chance to visit the stunning structure of University of Coimbra which is also added to the World Heritage List of UNESCO.
